Head & Chief Shepard

The Apostles identify only one head of the church, namely, Jesus Christ. A body has only one head, and Colossians 1:17-18 states explicitly Jesus is this head:

“He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy”.

Our Lord appoints pastors and elders as undershepherds who help lead and guard His body during its earthly pilgrimage (1 Peter 5:1–5). While these men have authority in the church, they are not the church’s head. Because no single pastor or elder is the head of the church and because a group of pastors and elders do not constitute the head of the church, the only authority these men have is declarative. They may only declare to God’s people what Christ has already spoken in His Word, and their teaching has authority only insofar as it conforms to the sacred Scripture.

Because Christ is head of the church, He not only has final authority over the church but He gives life to the church. Jesus is the “root, from which vital energy is diffused through all the members, so the life of the Church flows out from Christ.” The church finds her life in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Pastor

Pastor Rob has traveled extensively as a stateside missionary, serving churches on more than 50 trips to 15 different countries.  He also served as Pastor for many years at two different churches in Temecula, CA before relocating to Brookings, OR.  He has a degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of California at Irvine and a Masters in Intercultural Studies from Biola University in La Mirada, CA.

A lifelong church attender, Pastor Rob first understood and embraced the Gospel in his mid-twenties.  His passion since then is to expose people to the beauty of Christ and the glory of God through a diligent study of the Bible, that we all might celebrate the majesty and kindness and grace of God together.

Rob has been happily married to Kathy for 43 years and they have three adult children and seven adorable grandchildren.

Elder, Benevolence Director

William “Bill” Ross was baptized at a young age and attended church regularly until he enlisted in the US Air Force where he began drifting away. When he was assigned to the AF Finance Center in CO, he reconnected with an airman who had shared what God had done in his life. He invited Bill and his wife to church where he rededicated his life to the Lord. He was shown that God never lets go of what is His. John 10:28-29 states no one or nothing can ever be taken from His hand. Bill considers himself proof of that scripture. He states, “To God’s glory, I’ve done my best to follow His leading through the Holy Spirit and intend to do so until He calls me home.”

Bill serves as an Elder and the Benevolence Director at Pelican Bay Church. He has been married to Wilma for 61 years  and they have two daughters, six grandsons, and two great grandchildren.  

Elder, Children's Ministry

Andy Simonson is a 1980 4 year graduate of Prairie Bible Institute. He has pastored and planted churches in Washington and California for nearly 20 years. He currently serves as an Elder and Shepherd of Children's Ministry at the Pelican Bay Church.

Andy has been married to Cheryl for 50 years and they have three adult children and six beautiful grandchildren. 

Elder, Security, Usher

Although baptized at a young age, Michael did not understand and embrace the Gospel until his late 20’s.  The struggles of life and a challenging career in Law Enforcement were used by God's sovereign grace to humble him and show him his need for Jesus as Lord and Savior. Michael’s life verse is James 1:2 which was a compelling verse for him early in his walk, as it shed light on God’s purpose for the trials he faced.

Michael has been married to Esther for 25 years, has two adult sons, and two granddaughters who are all living in the Southern Oregon area.
